Senior sessions are a great way to capture a wide variety of looks and backgrounds—from natural and dreamy to bold and modern—all in a single shoot.

Senior Portrait Session with Natalie at the NC Museum of Art


A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing Natalie for her senior portrait session at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh. She wanted a session that felt warm, vibrant, and natural, with grassy fields, a scenic park backdrop, and a dreamy willow tree by the pond. We managed to capture all of that and more in just 60 minutes.

Golden Hour by the Willow Trees

We started by the willow trees near the pond, where the late summer sun filtered through the hanging branches and created a soft, golden glow. Natalie wore a flowing white dress that paired perfectly with the setting. She posed beneath the willow, sat on the wooden walkway, and smiled back over her shoulder as she walked into the light. It was a beautiful way to kick off the shoot and set the tone for the rest of the session.

Twirling on the Boardwalk

Next, we moved to the elevated boardwalk in front of the trees. The natural light was still perfect, and Natalie made the most of it with some twirls that brought her dress to life. The combination of movement, texture, and vibrant greenery gave this section of the gallery a fresh and playful feel.

Seated in the Grass and a Bubble Surprise

We made a quick stop for some seated portraits in the grass beneath the willow. Her white dress really popped against the lush green backdrop. As we started to head back, we had an unexpected treat when @raleighbubbleman happened to be there and generously filled the air with bubbles just as the sun was setting. It was a fun and magical bonus that gave us some truly unique shots.

Outfit Change and a Bold Finish

For the final part of the session, Natalie changed into a more casual outfit with ripped jeans, white sneakers, and a peach-colored tube top. We captured a few relaxed shots along a grassy wall, then made our way to the brick smokestack on the museum grounds for a bold and trendy final setup. The industrial brick paired with her casual look added contrast and variety, rounding out a session that had a little bit of everything.
